Introduction
King Alfred's Way is a historic route. In total it is 350km.

This was a one-time-only event
​
Limited to 100 places in total for ecological reasons around historic sights
This event has either a 100 mile (161k) or the full 217 miles (350k) distance. It is an off-road adventure, transporting the runners through 10,000 years’ worth of history in the South of England.
​
The route consists of gravel tracks and off-road trails through the heart of Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire.
​
King Alfred’s Way is named after the Anglo-Saxon ruler of the ancient kingdom of Wessex. The 350k route passes close to iconic locations and World Heritage Sites

You will finish at the feet of King Alfred's statue in Winchester!

Mark Cockbain
​
Mark is a vastly experienced ultrarunner with over 100 finishes worldwide; including multiple Spartathlon, Badwater (including double BW), GUCR, The High, JOGLE (15 days), Trans 333, Yukon Arctic 320, Thames Ring, Atacama, MDS, UTMB and many more... Marathon PB 2:53, 24hr 201k.
Mark transferred many of the key elements of the best races to set up Cockbain Events Ltd; an extreme set of hard to complete challenges including Viking Way, The Hill, C2C, Lon Las Ultra, The Tunnel, The Chained Ultra, and National Three Peak Ultra, as well as collaborations with Beyond Marathon Ltd

Richard has many UK ultra finishes, and completed many worldwide 250k events; including the MDS, Atacama Crossing, Kalahari Augrabies Extreme, La Trans Aq, Nepal.
Like Mark, Richard has taken the best of those races and in 2009 set up Beyond Marathon Ltd, and more recently TrackTrail® and Events Tracking Ltd. Richard has organised events such as King Offa's Dyke Race, Escape From Meriden, Deadwater, Convergence, Dusk til Dawn, The Millennium Way Ultra, The Gritstone Grind, 12 Labours of Hercules and many others, as well as collaborations with Cockbain Events such as the 1066 Ultra, Metropolis, and the White Horse Ultras.
Richard and Mark are old friends, who have ran together and directed races together in the past.
