Introduction

King Alfred's Way is a historic route. In total it is 350km.

This was a one-time-only event

Limited to 100 places in total for ecological reasons around historic sights

This event has either a 100 mile (161k) or the full 217 miles (350k) distance. It is an off-road adventure, transporting the runners through 10,000 years’ worth of history in the South of England.

The route consists of gravel tracks and off-road trails through the heart of Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire.

King Alfred’s Way is named after the Anglo-Saxon ruler of the ancient kingdom of Wessex. The 350k route passes close to iconic locations and World Heritage Sites

  • Stonehenge (Amesbury)

  • Avebury Stone Circle (Avebury)

  • Iron Age hill forts at Old Sarum (Salisbury)

The route connects four of England’s favourite running  Trails

  • North Downs Way

  • South Downs Way

  • Ridgeway

  • Thames Path

The route also includes existing bridleways, byways and quiet country lanes.  The route was devised by the charity the Cycling Tourist Club CTC'.

You will finish at the feet of King Alfred's statue  in Winchester!
